General tips for polishing aluminium
Polishing aluminium is a skill in itself. By trying out and varying different polishes and discs, you will discover which method and which aluminium polish best suits your way of working. Take your time, don't move on to the next step too quickly and regularly clean your workpiece with a soft cloth. And importantly, enjoy the end result! Nothing is as beautiful as a perfectly polished product!
Recommendations for polishing aluminium
Use polishing speeds of 50-60 m/s. Avoid excessive surface heating, otherwise the structure of the aluminium will change, negatively affecting the result after anodising. Use high-quality aluminium polishing compound from Menzerna: - Optimised binding - Better adhesion to the polishing wheel - Effective heat dissipation
For hard alloys: use a more greasy polishing compound. For soft alloys: use a drier polishing compound. Avoid excessively large particles in polishing products. Polishing errors only become visible after anodising, resulting in high rejection rates. Use individually developed Menzerna Top-Cut aluminium polishing paste with customised grain size. Only start polishing with aluminium polishing paste after sanding with a fine grain, as this preserves material and reduces polishing times. Menzerna polishing paste blocks for aluminium are suitable for manual workstations as well as fully automatic polishing systems. In large and small series, they set consistent standards for surface quality with a wide variety of workpiece geometries.
