Sanding discs

You can purchase your grinding discs from 3M, Klingspor, VSM and Deerfos at Metaaltechniek.

We will be happy to advise you on the selection of your grinding discs. At Metaaltechniek, you can choose from several quality brands. We cannot immediately tell you which disc is best for you. Important questions to consider when selecting your grinding wheel are:

- What is the application, the material to be processed, sharp edges or corners?

- Hard-to-reach areas

- Desired surface finish

- The machine you will be using

In addition to many different qualities, most grinding discs are available in several diameters, e.g. 75 mm, 115 mm, 125 mm, 150 mm, 200 mm. You often have several options to choose from when it comes to the hole pattern (or punch shape). From "no holes" to "multi-holes" and everything in between, there are countless possibilities.

We can distinguish grinding discs by grain type or mounting type.

Grit type:

1. Aluminium oxide grit: This grinding wheel can be used for tough materials such as steel 37, steel alloys and bronze. This grain size is often used for deburring and finishing metals. 2. Ceramic grain is a variant of aluminium oxide grain. However, this grain is sharper and harder than other grains. Under low or medium loads, this grinding wheel remains sharp for longer and removes a lot of material. Use this wheel for hard, wear-resistant materials.

3. Zirconium oxide grains are the most common abrasive grains: grinding discs with these grains are used for heavier work on steel and cast iron. However, this grinding disc also performs excellently on stainless steel, aluminium and various non-ferrous metals. The self-sharpening properties of zirconium are best utilised at higher pressures.

4. Silicon carbide: This is a very hard and sharp grain that requires only a little pressure to break out. Grinding discs with this grain are particularly suitable for grinding non-ferrous metals such as aluminium and bronze, as well as other relatively soft materials.

We distinguish between three types of grinding discs according to their fastening:

1. Hook and loop discs are grinding discs that are fastened to a backing pad with hook and loop fasteners. This design is also known as a Hookit grinding disc.

2. In addition, there are Stikit abrasive discs, which are glued to a backing pad with a self-adhesive layer.

3. Scotch-Brite Surface Conditioning discs are a separate category of sanding discs. These sanding discs have been specially developed for removing sanding scratches in a single step. As the disc has a hole in the centre, this sanding disc is always attached in a centred position.

If you are unsure which quality or design of grinding disc is best suited to your needs, please contact our sales department for expert advice. If necessary, ask the representative to visit you to test which grinding disc works best for you.

3M 775L Cubitron II grinding discs available from stock

The 775L discs from 3M are characterised by their open distribution on a foil backing. This makes the disc tear-resistant and prevents clogging. The Cubitron II grain ensures rapid material removal and a long service life. It is not a 100% PSG disc; the combined grain ensures a fine grinding result.

The 775L discs are available with different hole patterns for good dust extraction.

The 3M 775L discs were developed for applications in metalworking, paint preparation, composite materials and high-performance materials.

Available in grit sizes 80+ to 400+.
