Abrasive belts

Sanding belts

Sanding belts constitute the largest group in the field of abrasives. From small sanding belts for belt sanders to large sanding belts for long-belt or wide-belt machines, we offer every size imaginable. If we do not have them in stock or they are not listed on our website, please feel free to contact us, as any size of sanding belt can be made within 2-3 weeks.

Our main suppliers for sanding belts

3M, VSM, Klingspor and Deerfos. This means we can always supply you with an abrasive belt that offers the best possible value for money.

Abrasive belts have countless applications. Whether you need to work with steel, stainless steel, aluminium, cast iron, bronze or another alloy, we have a quality product for every material. It is therefore important that you order the right quality. Even the best abrasive belt will perform below par if it is not used on the material for which it is designed.

We have listed the most common grains and their properties for you:

1. Aluminium oxide grain: an abrasive belt with this grain can be used on tough materials such as steel 37, steel alloys and bronze. This grain is often used for deburring and finishing metals.
2. Ceramic grit is a variant of aluminium oxide grit. However, this grit is sharper and harder than other grits. At low or medium loads, the sanding belt remains sharp for longer and will remove a lot of material. This sanding belt is used on hard, wear-resistant materials.
3. Zirconium oxide grain is the most common abrasive grain: An abrasive belt with this grain is used for heavier work on steel and cast iron. But an abrasive belt with zirconium oxide grain also works excellently on stainless steel, aluminium and various non-ferrous metals. The self-sharpening properties of zirconium are best utilised at higher pressures.
4. Silicon carbide: this is a very hard and sharp grain that requires little pressure to break out. An abrasive belt with this grain is particularly suitable for grinding non-ferrous metals such as aluminium and bronze and other relatively softer materials.

3M Cubitron II Abrasive Belt

The Cubitron II quality from 3M is in a class of its own. Cubitron™ II sanding belts cut up to 50% more and faster, with less heat build-up thanks to "precision shaped grain" technology. Cubitron™ II sanding belts are a real revolution in the world of abrasives. By far the most powerful abrasive grain on the market. Want to increase your productivity? Choose a 3M Cubitron II sanding belt.

3M™ 984F sanding belt, a higher level of productivity.

The Cubitron™ 984F abrasive belt is particularly suitable for grinding and calibrating stainless steel and other alloys based on nickel, titanium and chromium-cobalt. This unique abrasive technology is adapted to the most extreme conditions: the belts retain their aggressiveness and cutting ability. The 984F abrasive belt is ideal for removing materials under high pressure: in the manufacture of turbine blades, orthopaedic implants, surgical instruments, machines, in forges and foundries.

Abrasive belt rotation direction

The belt can be used in both rotation directions without any safety issues. This is useful for reusing the cutting power of the minerals by simply changing their direction. The + side optimises the belt's performance.

Coarse abrasive belt

The unique triangular shape of the 36+ abrasive minerals gives the cutting power of a coarse P24 and the finish of a coarse P40. They are therefore particularly suitable for all applications where P24 to P40 is used.

3M Trizact sanding belt

Macro-replication-based abrasive structures are specially designed for faster cutting action at higher pressure and consistent results from the first to the last operation. Controlled mineral breakage makes finishes more consistent and predictable throughout the life of the abrasive material. Grinding debris is efficiently removed through channels, reducing clogging of the abrasive material.

Geometric "building blocks" wear evenly thanks to multiple layers of minerals and an abrasive aid. The weight class X linen backing withstands high-pressure grinding. The unique formula and special design of the abrasive material make the 3M™ Trizact™ CF Abrasive Belt 347FC ideal for grinding and finishing hard chrome. The 347FC belt delivers consistent grinding performance without clogging and dulling the finish. The flexible linen X-weight backing withstands high-pressure grinding on hard metal.
Consistent performance on metals that are difficult to grind
Thanks to the consistency of our Trizact abrasive material and the ease and versatility of sizing with a belt, the 3M™ Trizact™ CF Abrasive Belt 347FC can increase productivity, streamline process steps and increase the number of parts produced per belt. This belt is available in a range of grit sizes, from A300 for fast material removal to A30 for fine finishes. It is also available in a range of widths, up to a maximum of 63.5 cm.

Recommended applications for Trizact abrasive belt:

High pressure, final finishing and polishing on hard metals, nickel alloys, titanium and stainless steel. The unique formula and special pattern of the abrasive material make the 3M™ Trizact™ CF Abrasive Belt 347FC ideal for grinding and finishing hard chrome. Stripping and finishing with coarse A160. A160 is ideal for efficient material removal and achieving a fine finish.

Microreplication: the science behind smoothness.

Traditional methods of grinding and finishing are less effective on many newer, difficult-to-grind materials. This slows down production and increases costs. 3M now offers a wide range of solutions specifically designed for today's processing challenges. The three-dimensional structures of 3M™ Trizact™ Abrasives contain multiple layers of minerals. As these structures wear down, new, sharp minerals are constantly exposed on the surface. This ensures faster and more consistent cutting action. 3M™ Trizact™ abrasive products start sharp and stay sharp. This makes the finish more predictable and improves the quality and consistency of your components.

Trizact abrasives are based on proprietary 3M technology. They are precisely shaped three-dimensional structures that are uniformly distributed across a backing. Trizact abrasives last longer because they consist of multiple layers of minerals. Productivity is significantly increased due to fewer variations between components.

Klingspor abrasive belts

Metaaltechniek has a complete range of Klingspor abrasive belts. We supply a large proportion of these from stock. Klingspor stands for good German quality and has a very varied range.

The term belt sanding refers to a chip-removing finishing process in which surfaces are processed with an endless sanding belt and the corresponding machine. This is usually done with shorter Klingspor abrasive belts on hand-operated machines (e.g. belt sanders, hand sanders, sanding tubes) or with longer abrasive belts on stationary belt sanders (e.g. upright sanders, long & wide belt sanders).Sanding with a sanding belt is an economical process that is used for everything from calibration sanding (for the fastest material removal) to fine sanding (of surfaces that are then polished).

Due to the very wide range of belt sanding applications, it is important to have as much information as possible about the application in order to select the appropriate sanding belt. The following information is particularly important:

  • Material to be processed
  • Shape of the workpiece [flat, edge, profile, etc.]
  • Load/requirements => Grit size, base material
  • Contact element (round/flat) => belt connection
  • Wet or dry sanding => water resistance.

Klingspor supplies a large number of abrasive belts from stock:

  • in standard dimensions
  • for the most common machines
  • with the most suitable belt splice for the application.

In addition, virtually any individual belt size and splice can be manufactured and supplied as a special product at the customer's request.
